Fastelavn
Celebrate Fastelavn with us on February 15th!
Fastelavn is essentially the Danish word for carnival. It is an old Catholic tradition that the Danes still hold on to even almost 500 years after the Reformation in 1536. Fastelavn (from German: "fastelabend", i.e. "Eve of Lent") was traditionally celebrated on Sunday before the 40 days of Lent which ends by Easter Sunday.
In practice, it wasn't just the evening before Lent that people hit the party. There was feasting and eating for several days before.
